After three succesful online events, the Drachenwald Herbalist Guild is ready for a fourth session! So, please join us for another afternoon filled with awesome classes on all things related to herbs!

13.30 - 14.00 Arrival and welcome
14.00 - 14.45 Gwerful an Filí - The Language of Herbs
A presentation on how herbs have been woven into poetry and prose.
14.45 - 15.30 Ava van Allecmere - Quince Pie
16.00 - 16.45 Miriel atte Wille - Chemistry of medieval plant dyeing
A short (25 min without questions) lecture on the chemistry behind medieval plant dying, with madder, weld and woad as examples. We will explore how and why dye/pigment molecules adsorbes on wool and what conditions is best for a better chemical reaction and thus a stronger colour. Some information on how it was done in the medieval times is mentioned as well.
16.45 - 17.30 Dáire Ó Lochlainn - To coppice and to pollard
A brief survey of original manuscripts, archeology and modern agriscience will be undertaken to: demonstrate the uses of pre-1600 coppicing and pollarding; identify their legacy on the landscape, and; explore current thoughts on the practices and how they might inform SCA gardening and crafts.
