I hope you all had a wonderful break. It is a brand new year and we moving forward!

If you have NOT turned in your Tic-Tac-Toe final project, you need to see me ASAP. You will be having lunch with me to work on it EVERYDAY until it is completed.

Visit the Back from Break slides (on the home page) to see the updated classroom policies.

We will be preparing for the ACT on a weekly basis. The ACT will be given on FEBRUARY 25th! I want you all to succeed!

The Quarter end on January 17th. All work must be turned in by January 15th. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Hello Everyone! We are at the end of the first quarter! Woohoo!

Act I Quests will be handed back this week. You will have one cycle to complete test corrections.

A Day: Test Corrections due - 10/30

B Day: Test Corrections due - 10/31

Test corrections will be due at the beginning of class, not at the end.

Remember to give an explanation of why that answer is correct to receive full credit.

October 16, 2019

Congratulations to the students who completed their PSATs! It's a long day, but you should all be very proud of yourselves.

B Day: Remember, Act I Assessment of The Crucible is tomorrow. The Kahoot! links are on the home page!

Late/Missing Work is due October 25th, no excuses. If you are missing assignments or are unsatisfied with your grade, that is fully within your power to change.

I am slowly updating Powerschool with all of the assignments this past week, I apologize in advance for making you wait for accurate grades.

Have a wonderful day everyone!

      • B Day: due 9/26

Academic/Honors: Complete any missing work owed to me. Remember progress reports come out on Wednesday 9/25

September 18, 2019

Homework: Complete the Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God handouts. This will be used for discussion in class, so come prepared to discuss the excerpt and rhetorical devices.

Next week we will begin reading Arthur Miller's The Crucible, if you prefer to annotate directly on the page, I suggest you purchase a copy. Otherwise, I have a class set for us to share.

September 16, 2019

For homework: students are to finish their Jelly Bean menus if they have not already turned them in. This assignment is meant to be a fun practice to teach us to be more descriptive in our writing. Remember to show not tell. The more specific you are in your writing the 1) more immersed your reader becomes and 2) the less able a critic is to contradict your argument.

If you have not turned in your rhetoric handouts from last class, please turn those in ASAP.

September 12, 2019

Almost to the weekend everyone! To all Parents and Caregivers who came out tonight, it was a pleasure to meet you all!

For homework, if you did not finish your persuasive Ted Talks worksheet, that will be due next class. For A Day, that is Friday, the 13th (spooky!) . For B Day, that will be Monday, the 16th.

In the next few lessons, we will be starting to read The Crucible in class. The majority of the play will be read in class; if students prefer to annotate directly on the page then I encourage you to purchase your own copy.

September 6, 2019

We survived Hurricane Dorian at Jordan High School, and a lovely two-hour delay means that we'll all come back refreshed before the weekend!

We are continuing to practice ACE(CE)S responses (I can already hear the groans...), but don't worry: all this practice will help prepare y'all for the ACT.

A DAY, your homework from 9/5/19 is to complete the ACE(CE)S response from our classroom discussion on the progression of the American Dream. This is a graded assignment, but I don't want you to stress; this is going to give me a clear idea of where to begin when we start practicing academic writing.

B Day: I have my ACE(CE)S writing samples from you (hopefully), if not, please get that to me next time I see you. Alternatively, you may email it to me @ Carly.Coco@dpsnc.net.

Enjoy the weekend and be safe!

September 3, 2019

Welcome back from the "long" weekend everyone. Homework for Day 3 is for B Day (September 3rd). (Don't worry A-day, you'll have a similar assignment to do in class).

Respond to the following prompt:

What do the Iroquois creation myths reveal about their culture?

Periods 1B and 2B: Write an ACES response paragraph responding to the question. You may use evidence from "The Grizzlies Walked Upright," "The Earth on the Turtle's Back," or the Taos Pueblo Song, "I Have Killed the Deer".

Period 4B: Write an ACECES response paragraph responding to the question. You may use evidence from "The Earth on the Turtle's Back," or the Taos Pueblo Song, "I Have Killed the Deer".

Complete your response and turn it in by next class.

Hello Everyone! Hope that the first few days of school are going well and that your are ready for the upcoming year! I thoroughly enjoyed meeting every one of you and am looking forward to this being a great year of growth for us all.

If you have not already turned in the Caregiver/Contact Sheet, please fill it out and return to me as soon as possible.

I also request that those of you who did not turn in your introduction letter to me, complete that too (instructions can be found here). By knowing more about you all, I can begin to change seating arrangements and make my lessons as engaging as possible for you all.
