Mangum's Counseling Program is based on the ASCA (American School Counseling Association) Model. ASCA develops school counseling standards that help school counselors develop, implement and assess their school counseling program to improve student outcomes.

Mission

Vision

The mission of the Mangum Elementary Counseling Department is to provide a comprehensive, developmental, and preventative counseling program that, utilizing state and national curriculum competencies, focuses on the social, emotional, career and academic success of all students. Because each student who passes through Mangum's doors is a unique individual, it is the counselor's responsibility to be a voice and advocate for each child in their distinctive educational journey, vigorously promoting equity and access for all. In collaboration with teachers/administration, guardians and the community, the Mangum counselor acts as a facilitator who provides access to a mixture of meaningful, data-driven programs that allow all students to learn systems of respect for themselves, empathy for others, develop personal integrity and academic responsibility, and become motivated to ignite their full potential. These programs are designed with the long-term goal of cultivating a desire in every student to discover ways to pursue personal learning and become successful, active and productive citizens of the world.

Mangum Elementary students who engage in the counseling program, will graduate with the skills, knowledge and self-confidence to ignite their own limitless potential. Mangum students will be courageous life-long learners who persevere with integrity. They will exemplify Mangum counseling beliefs: they will believe in themselves, strive for greatness, advocate for others, and demonstrate respect and empathy to all. They will leave Mangum with the resilience, problem-solving skills and self-efficacy to achieve their personal, college and career goals, find success in life, and positively impact those around them.
