At E.K. Powe Elementary School, we believe in nurturing the potential in EVERY child. In Kindergarten, first grade, and second grade, all students practice stretching their brains during whole-class lessons in the K-2 Investigations program. Students will learn STEM concepts as well as divergent, convergent, and higher-order thinking skills. In the spring of second grade, we will conduct a sweep screen of all students for identification for the AIG program by administering the CogAT.

In grades 3-5, students will take a pre-assessment before each math unit and reading assessments to determine groups for pull out/push in. This allows for all students to have a chance to show what they know and get the enrichment they need at the time they need it.

Outside of the school day, students in grades 3-5 can participate in Science Olympiad, Battle of the Books, and enrichment clubs run by volunteers from the North Carolina School of Science and Math.
