A Lotta Love Club

Description: Do you like to shop, take part in arts and crafts, lead projects, raise money, and positively impact your community? The A Lotta Love Club will use all of these skills and more throughout the year! Our mission is to assist the A Lotta Love organization with homeless shelter remodels, and spread awareness of homelessness in our community.
Animal Awareness
Advisor: Sara Bickers
Time: Once every two weeks on Friday, 2:45-3:15 pm!
Description: The purpose of the club is to donate resources to nonprofit local animal shelters that run on donations, we can donate food, toys, and there’s of course volunteer work when it’s safer to do so. We also became members a nonprofit organization called the Homeless Pet Club that we will be starting the club through, they help bring awareness and finding safe homes for pets that are having a harder time than others being adopted.
ASL Club

Description: To share knowledge and conversation in American Sign Language. The club is open to student currently or previously enrolled in ASL classes and students who were not able to take the course due to limited space.
ASL Honor Society

Description: This is the national honor society for American Sign Language supported by the American Sign Language Teacher's Association. This body monitors the graduation honor cords and community service hours required.
Battle of the Books

Description: Are you competitive and like to read? Or just like to read? Join BOB! This is a district sponsored club designed around reading books from a variety of genres then competing in Quiz-Bowl style matches at the state and district level each March.
Black Student Union

Description: The purpose of the Black Student Union is to create cohesion among African American students, faculty and staff. This organization is not to exclude members of other races and ethnicities as all are welcome. This organization is, however, focused on encouraging African American students to integrate themselves into and around the campus, as well as project a positive perspective of African American culture.
BUJO

Description: This club is designed to give creative minds a way to organize their tasks and events through BUJO. We will meet every other week to sit down and plan with fellow members. Each meeting we will share spread and theme ideas among the group in order to encourage efficiency, creativity, and time management.

Film Club

Description: Students will watch a variety of films on their own time and then come together to analyze and discuss the many parts of the film and its components.
Frisbee Golf Club
Advisors: Gracelyn Howes
Description: The Jordan Frisbee Golf (or frolf) Club, which has already attracted nearly two dozen members in its first day, is truly the first of its kind at our school. For those who are unfamiliar, disc (frisbee) golf is a sport where each participant starts from the same tee and attempts to land their disc in the hole in the least number of throws possible. Frolf can cater to those who may not feel athletic enough to play a traditional sport, or those simply looking for an excuse to get outside and stay active. Due to Covid-19, official club meetings will remain virtual, but anyone who wishes to join or learn more about the club may contact us via our instagram page @jordanfrolf or by connecting with our club's teacher advisor, Ms. Howes (Gracelyn_Howes@dpsnc.net).

Description: International Club’s goal is to raise cultural awareness among peers, staff, faculty at Jordan High School by recognizing the diverse cultures in our community. As a club, we plan to explore the different types of foods, games, music and traditions as we hope to enhance one’s knowledge about cultural differences, like beliefs and values, with our events hosted by members of our club such as Cultural Night, in which not only the wide-ranging cultures at Jordan are celebrated, but also around the world.

Model United Nations

Description: Model United Nations or MUN, is an educational stimulation in which students learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. In a one fun weekend long conference at UNC Chapel Hill, JHS students will engage with other students (delegates) from all across the state. Students are assigned countries to represent as well as a topic that their committee will discuss and debate. Throughout the weekend, delegates come together and propose legislation taking the place of the country they represent. During the year leading up to the conference, we will meet 1-2 times a month to work on writing platform papers and speaking skills!
National Honor Society

Description: My mission is to have an easygoing environment for students to be relaxed and comfortable enough to share their poetry with each other and to feel like they are not being judged. To get great feedback and criticism yet not feel attacked. If they don’t feel comfortable enough to share their own work they can bring in work from poets who they like that have stood out to them and they really like. My mission is to have my peers feel respected and appreciated when sharing their work or just while being at the meetings in general and to also enjoy the club, let loose and express their thoughts.

Description: Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) at Jordan will work to bring our school together as a community to create a safe space for all students. SAVE aims to cultivate student leaders across the nation to take an active role in increasing safety in schools, relationships, and communities. We will learn from each other how to create an inclusive school culture, and empower our peers to join in the fight against violence of any sort.

Description: This club is for anyone interested in creating and running science experiments or participating in a high school science fair. Because of the current circumstances, the annual science fair is changing to a club! Description: The SHS is by invitation only. Members are eligible to apply for scholarships and travel grants. They are recognized at graduation after completing service hours using their Spanish. The SHS hosts tutoring sessions to support students taking Spanish and has hosted cultural festivities in the past. This year we will also offer a tertulia, or informal chat time in Spanish.

Ultimate Frisbee

Description: Jordan's Ultimate Frisbee Team, playing a sport reminiscent of soccer and football with a frisbee, have achieved state championships in 1999 and 2017-18 as well as a 2018-19 State appearance. This makes the Dirty Birds a household name among teams in the southeast. The team is planning to start having virtual sessions in mid-September , It’s fun and relatively low-commitment compared to varsity sports, and it’s a great way to make friends!

Description: The Volunteer Club will facilitate opportunities for Jordan students to directly serve their communities, both the Jordan and broader Durham community. Members of the club will identify and plan different ways for students to serve and help others. Students that are looking for ways to get required volunteer hours to meet various requirements, as well as other students who are simply looking for a way to get involved in their communities are all welcome. As a new club, we are looking for members who are excited to bring their ideas and help build something that has lasting value at Jordan.
