“There is a brilliant child locked in every student!”
Marva Collins
Shamia Truitt,
I am proud to serve as an educator at DPS's Carrington Middle School, where I love bringing Social Studies to life through arts integration and engaging literacy strategies.
My academic background includes degrees from Boston University, Georgia State University, and North Carolina Central University. I also hold a Master’s in Education from Georgia State University and am certified in AIG, Social Studies, and Language Arts for grades 6–12.
My work has been featured in Dr. Sharon L. Spencer’s book, Getting to the Common Core: Using Research-Based Strategies that Empower Students to Own Their Learning. In addition, I have worked with the Duke Young Scholars High School Research Institute each summer from 2020–2025, and this year I was honored to serve as the lead instructor.
For me, teaching is more than a profession—it is a calling. I am dedicated to inspiring, motivating, and providing meaningful educational experiences for every student. I believe education requires equity, compassion, empathy, patience, perseverance, and a genuine love of knowledge. Above all, I wholeheartedly believe that all students have the ability to unlock the golden key of education and achieve success in our global community.
To bring this vision to life, I incorporate 21st-century research-based practices, differentiate instruction, design multiple-intelligence and interest-based activities, and use data-driven strategies to ensure that all students can learn.
I am excited to begin the 2025–2026 school year and look forward to growing alongside my scholars as we learn and achieve together.
