Students worked on a series of writing prompts and then examined how they used strong verbs and adjectives, sensory details, figurative language, sequencing/transition words, and dialogue to improve their writing. Students gave each other useful feedback based on a narrative writing standards continuum. They also took part in group discussions about writing strengths and areas needing growth. Ask your child about the "Genre Bingo" reading challenge they'll be working on this year.Â

We worked on a "Me By Numbers" activity to get to know each other better. Each class session begins with a challenging standards-based warm-up. This month included prime and composite numbers, multiples, comparing fractions, fractions on a number line, double-digit multiplication, and explaining/justifying answers. Then, students use IXL.com to work through grade-level standards at their own pace. Students can move beyond their grade level by working on recommended skills. Based on "trouble spots," mini-lessons are created to continue moving students forward. Finally, students set math goals for the 25-26 school year.
