While this month is Native American Heritage Month, we acknowledge that our commitment to honoring and respecting the First People of this land is for all times.
As your children created their turkey feathers of gratefulness and heard stories of the first Thanksgiving from the lens of the First People we made an age appropriate acknowledgement.
During this season of harvest and family feasts we think about our gratitude.
We are grateful for the First People of this land who live here now,
have in the past, and will in the future.
We are grateful that we can help make this land one
of love and care for all peoples and creatures upon it.

Cactus Soup by Eric A Kimmel
Fandango Stew by David Davis
The First Fire a Cherokee Story by Brad Wagnon
Well, Kallaloo A Caribian Tale won by a landslide! It seems that we really love that it was the only story of these versions of Stone Soup that actually had magic. The shell that Granny found spoke to her and told her how to bring the villagers together to make Kallaloo, a wonderful soup. All of our versions had the people learning how important it is to share and show kindness.
Who doesn't love whipped cream on their pumpkin pie? Well we do and we counted the scoops.
We rolled the die and colored in our turkey.
We graphed what ingredients our friends might like to add to our Stone Soup.
Carrots were the clear winner in what we brought to add to Stone Soup. Unfortunately, most had to be tossed, (safety recall) but were replaced with yummy celery and brussle sprouts! :)
Our Stone Soup game made matching catagories fun.
Building noodle soup, counting, and using fine motor skills was a big success.
Creating recipes for our own stone soup let us draw and count some more.
Everyone brought something yummy for our shared Stone Soup.
We have some good chefs in our class.
It simmered all day and then we had it with some rolls for afternoon snack
Esme's big sister Ada, who was in our class when she was 4, came to read to us today!
We loved sharing our pumpkin pie! Thank you again PreK. 🩷 Ms. Belle

of Goldilocks and the Three Bears
It's hibernation time so we thought we'd have some fun with bears. Our favorite had some bears, but it was the goat that was hit! She ate everything, not only the porridge.
We loved our printing process with Legos to make our Native corn.
We honored the First People and their story of Weeâchumun's Thanksgiving Story. She is the spirit of Corn and with her sisters beans and squash they helped the newcomers long ago.
After hearing the stories of Harvests Around the World, we had fun creating the World's Children puzzle.

October Birthdays!
Bodi turned 4!
Jojo turned 5! Esme's Photo wont load! Oh No. We will add it next week.
We used our sense of sight and taste to choose our favorite apple.
Some were sweet,
and some were sour!
We chose our favorite and said why.
10 Apples on Top.
We counted apples
and stacked them tall
We were laying down, so they did not fall.
We followed our recipe.
We used good finger skills to cut our apples
We smashed and smashed.
Our apples didn't get squishy enough for apple sauce, (not enough lemon juice) but made wonderful baked cinnamon apples for snack time.
More apple counting.
We started our journals. We are the authors and the illustrators. We can't wait to see how beginning, middle, and end look different at the end of the year.
One of our alumna joined us from 2nd grade to read to the class.
Mylo read two books and it was so much fun. Siblings are welcome to come read as long as it is OK with their teachers!

With an apple, baking soda, and vinegar we can be mad scientists at home too!

We forgot to post our first class birthday in August, so here's Harper and our first Sept birthday, Sylvie. We are 4!
We went to the auditorium to watch our schoolmates act out ROAR! Respect Others, Ongoing Learning, Always Safe, Responsible Actions!
Temple is our school comfort dog. She is so sweet and available for anyone who needs some extra love.
She proudly wore her Crocs for the show! :)
Fall blooming flowers had some admirers. Students from last year planted many things, but sadly our sprinklers didn't work over the summer. We have been watering as a class, and look how beautiful the outcome.
Our 3rd grade Book Buddies from Ms. Gate's class came down to introduce themselves! We will go upstairs to visit them soon as well. We love connecting with our schoolmates and hearing new stories.
We finger painted beautiful fall trees to welcome the season this weekend. While product art sometimes gets a bad name, this project is called guided drawing. Students use patience, listening, and direction following skills to create these works.
Independent process art is number one in our class, but we do these a few times a year to strengthen these different skills. Outcomes are still unique to each child as you can see, beautifully decorating our room.
First we drew, step by step with each other.
Then we were ready to fingerpaint. A couple of us didn't love the gooey, so we used brushes instead.
Ms. Liz came to our classroom Tuesday for a moment of mindfulness. Her singing bowl was magnificent.
We are working hard on creating our family book for our class library.

The Good Egg by Jory John was the winner in our first favorite series. Everyone was so good at remembering what they liked about the story they voted for. Some had favorite characters, settings, or actions! These are all of the things we have been looking for in our stories. We can't wait to see what our next series is and which one will win.
We created our classroom rules and signed the poster with our fingerprints!
We Keep Ourselves Safe.
We Keep Our Friends Safe.
We Keep Our Things Safe.
We had fun practicing our letter L. Vertical writing helps us cross the midline and strengthen our hand and wrist as we work against gravity!
Everyone made great Ls on our whiteboard before heading out to centers. We talked about leaving the a sound off of the end of our letter sounds. L instead of LA
We started our writing books practicing our letter L and working on our pincer grip.
We built our names with letter parts, finding our letters independently.
Ms. Tracy made letter building fun.
We started Surprise Box for our version of Show and Tell. Everyone will get many turns through the year. We use our problem solving skills to figure out the clues.

Sometimes we need a "Just Because Day". Well, we had a "Just Because Week". We engaged in the arts, created, collaborated, and grew our brains in the way it grows best,(yes, this happens here often). The learning we did might have been hidden in visual art, music, movement, and drama, but this learning grows those neurons that our brain needs to be it's best.
An exerpt from "The Just Because Day" by Ms. Belle.
Music! We read it just like a book. Boom, Grrrr, Ribbit, Pop. Ribbit, Boom, Pop, Grrrr!

We used our animal numerals in our math lesson.
We had to do some big counting to make sure our dog bowls were full.

Giant Legos are a fun part of our building unit.
Being an architect means creating plans and making models.
We experimented with building houses
that the big bad wolf could blow down.
We have to say why we pick the one that we do by showing what is different about that story. Nijas are very popular and many students also liked that one of the houses was made of Bamboo. We heard many things that were special about this story and that the girl pig didn't have to fight the wolf was a big plus. She just showed him how good she was at her craft because she practiced and practiced.
We made a connection to our stories and then held our neighbors hand until the circut was complete and our "magic" wand lit up and played music!
We hope you all have a magical holiday break.
Continue to spread the love and light.

As we enter the season of thankfulness, light, and love we reflect on how we can be grateful and kind all of the time. We discussed our Stone Soup versions and shared what we are thankful for. We collaborated in making our own Stone Soup while having conversation about what it means to share, give, and care for others. We brought our grateful stories from home with our Turkey feathers and shared with the class. Let us carry these thoughtful behaviors with us always and for all people.
I encourage you to share as you gather to feast for this holiday break, the DPS community land acknowledgment written by Dr. Tink Tinker;
The DPS community acknowledges our Indigenous relatives who have lived in and cared for this ancient Land from time immemorial. We acknowledge the close relationship that the Arapahoe, Cheyenne, Sounther Ute and Mountain Ute, and Natives of other tribal Nations continue to have with the waters, plants, and all moving things that call this Land home. We pledge our respect for those enduring Indigenous connections to the place we now call Colorado.
