Can I choose my child's provider? No, the mental health team will discuss concerns amongst each other to determine which provider would be the best fit to meet your student's needs.
Does my child have to be in special education to receive mental health services? No, your child does not have to be in special education to receive mental health services.
How often can my child receive services from a mental health provider? The amount of access to a mental health provider depends on the student's level of need. Some students may receive 30 minutes a week, a quick 5 minute check-in, or multiple sessions a week over a 4-6 week period, over the course of the school year or until the behavior has significantly decreased/no longer presents. This will be discussed with you and your child's assigned provider.
Who can refer my student for services? A student can be referred for services by a parent, guardian, teacher or school administration. Although a student can be referred by a school team member, providers are not allowed to provide services to students without parental consent for school social work or school psychologist related services.
Is my student "in trouble" or "being punished" when referred for mental health services? No, mental health services are not a punishment for students. These services provide students with the opportunity to learn skills that make them more successful at school and access information in their general education classroom.
