Song Selection Tips

• Choose a song that shows off your entire vocal range, (Low to high)

• Choose a song from a musical. 

• Your song should reflect the character in which you want to play in the musical you are auditioning for. 

• Choose a song that tells a story and tells an emotional journey. 

Song Ideas For Specific Roles

Matilda: choose a song that shows off a rebellious side to your character like "Good Girl Winnie Foster" from Tuck Everlasting or "Pulled" from the Addams Family. You may also look for a song of a character that wants more than what they are getting such as "In My Own Little Corner" from Rodgers and Hamerstien's Cinderella or "Almost There" from The Princess and The Frog

Miss Honey: Choose a song that shows a longing to break from the norm or tired of being told no, such as " Notice me Horton" from Seussical, or "If only you would listen"- from School Of Rock. 

The Trunch Bull: Choose a song that shows the fun terribleness of her personality such as "Little Girls" from Annie or "I Want The Good Times Back" from The Little Mermaid 

Bruce/Nigel: Choose a song that shows the innocence of Childhood such as "It's Possible" From Seussical or "Giants In The Sky" from Into The Woods. 

Any of the kids: Choose a character trait you want to portray, snotty, kind, adventurous, ambitious, Etc.! Choose a song that shows off that trait! Below is a list of Musical Theatre Songs that may match your voice or would make a good audition song! Your task will be to find the song that showcases your voice best! Happy Hunting! 

Slating

Enter the audition room, say hello, and then introduce yourself, and the song that you will be performing. 

Example:

"Hello! My name is Josh Pele, and today I will be performing I know it's today from Shrek The Musical" 

Once you slate, take a breath and begin singing. You will be singing acapella! (No music track underneath, just your voice) 

Once you finish your song, say thank you and then we will ask you for more things or will say thanks and send you on your way.
