ECE Applications/SchoolChoice
Families applying to enroll in an ECE-3 or ECE-4 program are strongly encouraged to submit a SchoolChoice application during Round 1. Submitting an application during Round 1 of SchoolChoice offers families the best chance of obtaining a seat at their desired preschool program. Round 1 opens at 10 a.m. on Jan. 11 and closes at 4 p.m. on Feb. 12, 2024. Following your DPS SchoolChoice application submitted during Round 1, DPS will reach out to families to provide the next steps for completing an application for funding support through Universal Preschool (UPK) Colorado. Visit the DPS Early Childhood Education (ECE) webpage for more information on how to apply!

Book Stars
Literacy Program
Book Stars encourages our ECE 4 students to use their bodies, voices, and imaginations to explore classic children’s picture books within a thirty-minute visit. Students are introduced to a book and then immersed in its themes and situations.
Students become characters and solve problems through theatrical play as they bring literacy concepts to life, including print motivation, print awareness, letter knowledge, and phonological awareness!
Read Aloud Program
A trained volunteer visits our ECE classrooms weekly to read with our students.
PROGRAM GOALS:
To provide children with the opportunity to experience the love of books and the joy of reading.
To develop pre-reading skills among Denver's preschoolers.
To promote the use of the The Denver Public Library among preschoolers, their families and their teachers.
Book Trust inspires the joy and power of reading for students across the country, engaging every child in book choice and ownership, cultivating literacy-rich communities. Each month Hallett students receive a budget to purchase books of their choice to keep and take home to read over and over again!
Many studies show that empowering students to choose their own books – and then keep them – really helps them to improve basic literacy skills and fall in love with reading. By providing the means for kids to decide which books they want to read each month and adding them to their home libraries throughout the entire school year, we help students build the healthy habits of life-long readers and learners.
Leave us a review!
As we continue to grow our enrollment and spread the word about Hallett, we'd love for you to leave us a glowing review on either Google, Facebook, or GreatSchools. Thank you!
