AVID’s mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society.
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a college and career readiness program designed to support motivated students in reaching their full potential. At East, AVID students participate in an elective class focused on building critical skills like organization, time management, study strategies, and effective note-taking. They engage in weekly tutorials where they collaborate to solve academic challenges, develop higher-level thinking through inquiry-based learning, and receive guidance on college and career planning, including resume writing, applications, and campus visits. AVID also fosters a strong sense of community—students stay with the same cohort throughout their four years of high school, creating a supportive environment that encourages goal-setting, accountability, and academic growth across all subject areas.
