Hello Scientists!

February 2022: A focus on Black Scientists

Dear Families,

Different people do different things and have different feelings. It’s so important that we have lots of different kinds of people in our community and that everyone feels safe. Another way to say that is diversity.

We are taking time to explore diversity and celebrate Black Lives Matter @ School during our Science lessons. Students learned about a diverse group of Black scientists and picked one to whom they felt connected.

Please keep exploring these scientists by reading books, watching films, and discussing together. Click on this link: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1Wv2kQ4AJEEOyduMdd_YhtQkic875aooSGwW-Qx1JOP4/edit#slide=id.p

August 2021: Welcome back, Scientists! Check out these photos of our first few days in the lab. Students are taking time to explore everything the science lab has to offer while practicing the expectations (Take care of yourself, Take care of others, Take care of our space and materials). Students spent time outside as well exploring the wonder of nature just outside our classroom walls!

April 2021: Trout in the Classroom

The Science Lab is now fundraising to start a Trout in the Classroom program! This is a conservation-oriented and environmental education program I’d like to develop with my young learners. We will raise trout from eggs in a tank here at Centennial, with the goal to release the trout into local water each spring. I’m envisioning a Release Day party where students, families, and community members (like you) can come together to celebrate the release of our trout into local waters. The Trout in the Classroom program will be a wonderful opportunity for our students to engage in community-based learning by learning how to care for local animals, appreciate water as a habitat and resource, and connect with ecosystems. Information will be added here as the program develops.

May 2020: Have a great summer!

Dear Centennial Scientists!

It's the last day of school! Wow. I experienced so much determination from you all this spring as we explored remote learning together. I hope you enjoyed the science activities and shared your learning with your family. I loved getting photos and videos from you as ornithologists learning about birds, hydrologists exploring water, and engineers trying out different challenges. Please explore the three links at the bottom of this page to enjoy more SCIENCE activities this SUMMER.

Please share your learning with me throughout the summer! by e-mail at michelle_morton@dpsk12.org or by text (720) 642-7120‬

All the best to you and yours!

Sincerely,

Miss Michelle
