Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

Why should I plan using the UDL model?

UDL is the flexible design of instruction, instructional materials, and evaluation of student learning that can be used with all students without the need for specialized design or adaptations. Rather than designing instruction for an “average” grade level student, instruction is designed to encompass a wide range of abilities/disabilities, reading levels, native languages, learning styles, motivations, and other characteristics. This approach focuses on the process of learning for all students that reduces barriers to learning, incorporates inclusive attributes and accommodates learner differences. (Meyer, Rose, Gordon, 2014)
