School:  Asbury Elementary

Grade:  1st Grade

Areas of Study:  Literacy & Science

Date:  October-November, 2023

Project Summary:

First grade researchers took an in-depth dive into 7 different animal habitats. We became fluent in the various climates, foods, shelters, adaptations, threats and overall survival needs. Once we finished learning about each habitat, we decided which animal we were interested in the most. To become animal experts, we visited the Denver Zoo, learned about animal extinction and researched our animal using grade level texts. We used this information to write our very own nonfiction text and built a diorama. Our dioramas are habitat replicas to demonstrate what each animal looks like and needs to survive.
