Your assignment has FOUR parts:
- Find or compose your own powerful phrase or passage that captures one, all or a combination of these values:

The quote or passage can be from Shooting Kabul. It can also be from a well regarded person such as Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Malala Yousafzai, Martin Luther King Jr. Last, it can be written by you!
Part 2: Take the picture!!
- Between today and August 29th take a photograph that captures the essence of the phrase or passage you picked. See more details about the photo below!
Part 3: Written description (on a separate sheet of paper)
- At the top include your name, class period
- Below your name paste a small copy of your photograph
- Type out your quote at the top of the page (be sure to include the author below the quote)
- In your first paragraph describe the photograph that you took objectively. In other words, just describe what we can see--avoid a deeper analysis.
- In your second paragraph explain the connection between the photograph and the quote or passage you selected. This is the more important paragraph as it will include your analysis.
- Once done print out your written description: You will turn this in along with your photograph
Part 4: Presenting the photo itself
- Print out the photo---the strongly recommended size is 8 x 10
- The photo needs to be printed on Photo Paper
- Attach the photograph to a larger sheet of construction or poster paper
- Above the photo type or neatly write out a TITLE for the photograph
- Below the photograph neatly write or type out the sentence or passage you selected.
- Put your name on the BACK of the construction or poster paper (not the front).
- You may be in the photo but you do not have to be
- Your name (first and last) should be on the BACK of the photo and not the front.
- Time is limited so don’t wait to start brainstorming ideas.
- The photo and the typed paragraphs are due when you come to class on Wednesday, August 30th. You may submit your photo earlier.
- The photo must be printed or developed on PHOTO paper.
- Submitting the photo or the written section online will not “count”.
- You are welcome to snap away hundreds of times, but only ONE photo may be submitted in the contest per student
- Use photo paper to print your photo, or go to a photo processing store like Walgreens. Photographs will be on display during Open House
- Contest: There will be a photography judging contest. The top four photos will be enlarged, posterized and displayed in the hallway throughout the year.
