Year B Spring

Charlie & The Chocolate Factory

This term, our learning is centred around the Roald Dahl story, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. In history we will be learning about how chocolate arrived in Europe and how it evolved into the sweet treats that we know today. In geography we will be looking at where exactly it came from and the journey it made to reach us, including where and how it is currently grown and harvested. Our science work will be looking at materials, their uses and properties…including chocolate! In art and design & technology we are really hoping that we will still be able to complete our usual project of designing and making our very own chocolate sweets, just like Willy Wonka!

We will be making links within this learning to Children’s Rights, such as;

Article 13 - the right to information.

Article 29&30 - the right to learn about and practise their own/ others cultures.

Article 27 - the right to a good standard of living (fair wages - fairtrade)

Article 32 - the right to be protected from child labour

Dreams and Goals & Healthy Me

Our JIGSAW Puzzle piece for PSHE this half term is ‘Dreams and Goals’. We will learn about setting our own goals and working towards them. We will identify successes and celebrate our own and others’ achievements. Children will learn to identify possible obstacles and think of ways in which they could be overcome. We will link this work to our growth mindset learning skills such as perseverance and embracing a challenge.

After half term our Puzzle piece is ‘Healthy Me’. In this piece we look at different ways to keep ourselves healthy; keeping clean, eating and nutrition, keeping safe (road safety, medicines, household items) and making healthy lifestyle choices. We will also look at happiness and wellbeing in terms of keeping ourselves healthy.
