Year A Summer

At The Seaside

This term, our project is "At the Seaside". In science, we will be looking at a variety of plants and animals within the seashore habitat. We will learn about animal diets, food chains and the effect that pollution can have on all of our wildlife. In history, we will learn about seaside holidays in Victorian times and consider changes to modern times. In geography, we will use maps to learn the oceans and continents of the world and think about the way human features can change our natural landscape, for better or worse. In art we will be designing and making a seaside sculpture using clay and in design & technology we will be creating a fish using sewing skills.

We will be making links within all this learning to Children's Rights, for example:

Article 12 & 13 - the right to share opinions and be listened to.

Article 24 - the right to a clean and safe environment to stay healthy.

Article 29 - education should encourage children to respect the environment.

Article 31 - the right to relax and play.

Relationships & Changing Me

Our JIGSAW Puzzle piece for PSHE this half term is ‘Relationships’. We will think about healthy relationships with our family and friends, learning about the qualities of good friendship and how to deal with any difficulties we might find in our relationships. We will also think about being a good friend to ourselves, acknowledging our own successes and mistakes as experiences to be learned from. We will celebrate the positive and trusting relationships around us and learn how to express appreciation to others.

After half term our Puzzle piece is ‘Changing Me’. In this piece we look at life cycles and the natural process of change as we all travel the journey of life. We will reflect on changes that have happened so far and the changes that might come in the future, talking about the differences in boys and girls using the correct terminology. We will think about ways of coping when change feels difficult, reflecting on our year together in our class and preparing for transition to the next school year.
