Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start) (UEE22020)
Students enrolled in this course gain a wide variety of specialised skills that are required within the Electrotechnology industry. Skills such as, but not limited to:
Correct use of Electrotechnology hand and power tools
Reading and interpreting drawings and specifications
Basic wiring and fault finding
Installation of Electrotechnology cabling and equipment
Maintenance and repair of electrical appliances and other electrical equipment
As part of the Electrotechnology course students also gain the NSW Building and Construction Industry Work, Health and Safety White Card qualification. The White Card is a mandatory requirement to enter any construction site within Australia
Students enrolled in this course undertake nationally recognised units of competency. The competency units Electrotechnology students work through are:
UEECD0007 - Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace.
CPCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
UEECD0046 - Solve problems in single path circuits.
UEECD0038 - Provide solutions and report on routine electrotechnology problems.
UEECD0052 - Use routine equipment/plant/technologies in an energy sector environment.
UEERE0021 - Provide basic sustainable energy solutions for energy reduction in residential premises.
UEECD0009 - Carry out routine work activities in an energy sector environment.
UEECD0021 - Identify and select components, accessories and materials for energy sector work activities.
UEECD0051 - Use drawings, diagrams, schedules, standards, codes and specifications.
UEECD0019 - Fabricate, assemble and dismantle utilities industry components.
UEECD0020 - Fix and Secure electrotechnology equipment.
UEECO0002 - Maintain Documentation.
UEERL0001 - Attach cords and plugs to electrical equipment or connection to a single phase 230 Volt supply.
If students have an interest in Electrical Engineering, or they wish to gain an apprenticeship within the Electrotechnology Industry then this is the course for them. This course provides students with a basic set of skills and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) toward Certificate III Electrotechnology apprenticeship trade courses.
Students receive a wide variety of experiences within the Electrotechnology industry, including industrial, commercial, domestic, low voltage equipment, high voltage consumer supply, data, security and fire protection, maintenance, service and installation.
Yes. Due to the high safety requirements of this course, industry expectations, the high industry standard of regulation and specialisation, resourcing and work placement limitations there will only be a limited number of positions available within this course, capped at two classes consisting of sixteen students in each. Therefore the following criteria will be applied to assist in the selection of students for the Electrotechnology course:
Evidence of consistent effort in TAS (if chosen) and other subjects during Year 10
Evidence of positive achievement in Mathematics and English subjects during Year 10
Evidence of safe working habits in practical settings
Evidence of pride in the quality of work
A pass mark in an online Numeracy and Literacy skills test (see below)
Genuine interest in the course area
Employment related characteristics such as uniform, punctuality, effective use of time, ability to stay on task, ability to follow instructions
