A common source of concern among parents is precisely how (and how much) to help their child prepare for NAPLAN. Preparing students for NAPLAN is different from preparing them for other assessments or tests. This is largely because NAPLAN examines everything: a student’s reading, writing, spelling and mathematical abilities. These core skills aren’t something that can really be memorised or “crammed for” — they have to be developed over time.
The questions in NAPLAN are typically ones that force the students to think for themselves rather than recall knowledge.
Even so, there are practical ways to boost your child’s confidence in their own abilities and prepare them for the unique variety of NAPLAN questions. This includes completing past papers and practice tests.
Below are some resources for students to prepare for the NAPLAN Tests.
PUBLIC DEMONSTRATION SITE
Students should use the NAP Lockdown Browser and click on Demonstration Tests to familiarise themselves with the types of questions and tools available in the NAPLAN Online tests.
All Parents/Guardians are welcome to access the Public Demonstration site to familiarise themselves with the test platform and style of questions that their child will be exposed to. We encourage you to do this together with your child. That way, they see NAPLAN as important.
OZTESTS - They provide free and low-cost resources for NAPLAN. The system also automatically marks the student's test so they can check their understanding at the end. Great for instant feedback!
