As of September 2025, CEDoW had established a list of endorsed Gen AI tools/platforms. This list will be updated as required.
CEDoW Endorsed tools have passed data security and privacy tests. With these tools, staff can use Internal CEDoW data, including both direct and indirect Personal Identifying Information (PII), whilst always maintaining caution and appropriate professional scrutiny.
Non CEDoW endorsed Gen AI tools should not be used for higher risk activities and must NOT use -
Internal CEDoW data
Student data, or Personally Identifiable Information (PII) in prompts or in file uploads.
See Appendix 1 for a list of CEDoW Endorsed Gen AI tools and how to access them.
In general terms, a base safety approach to using Gen AI safely comes down to two decision points-
Which Gen AI tool will deliver the intended outcome?
What types of data are appropriate to use with this Gen AI tool?
Special Note 1: Access Blocking
CEDoW will always make every effort to block network access to Gen AI tools (or browser extensions) that are deemed as demonstrably unsafe, particularly with regard to data protection issues.
Guidance for staff use of Gen AI
AI use should always be in alignment with CEDoW’s AI principles.
Staff should be aware of which Gen AI tools are CEDoW Endorsed and that there are restrictions on data use when utilising other tools.
Staff should be able to identify appropriate use of CEDoW internal data, student Personal Identifying Information (PII) (including indirect identifiers), and copyrighted information.
Staff should ensure they log into a personalised CEDoW account when using Endorsed Gen AI tools to ensure data protection.
Guidance for staff directing student use of Gen AI tools
Staff should only direct students to use CEDoW Endorsed Gen AI tools
Any direction given by a staff to students for the use of Gen AI tools must be in compliance with all relevant terms and conditions, and regulatory requirements, particularly where age limits apply.
