Student Reflection
In Luke 1:26-36, an angel of God was instructed to deliver a message for Mary at a town in Galilee, around sundown. The angel came to her and said, “Greetings favoured one! The Lord is with you.” Mary was confused by his greeting. The angel then said, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God." The angel told her that she will receive a baby and she will call him ‘Jesus’.
I chose to do a sketch for my art, to indicate that it was an olden day picture, since it was around 6 or 5 BC. In my artwork it shows Angel Gabriel coming down to Mary, with the Holy Spirit above them giving Mary strength, courage and love. Mary was very obedient to God, and did as she was told.
My artwork encourages me to embrace our freedom, and trust in God always, this makes me think about Proverbs 3:5, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding”. This scripture passage also teaches me to not be afraid of God, and others like angels or saints. This part of history I believe is so important because I often wonder if Mary didn’t obey God's plan for her, would Jesus even have been born?
