Student Reflection
The scripture I chose was the Birth Of Jesus and Visit Of The Magi. I chose this passage because it is a significant part that connects my Christian culture with my Indian heritage.
Mary wears a potte and saree to represent Kerala, where I’m from in India, that I too wear to Church and other significant events. I have also connected with the Church I visit where we worship the Holy Family. I used gold accents on Mary’s potte to highlight her importance in my life and in the scripture.
A gold star means guidance throughout hard times for Malayalis, as well as motherhood. The orange on the Indian flag means courage and sacrifice. I have chosen to dress Joseph in orange which reflects his strength and leadership. The white on the Indian flag means peace and truth (the peaceful birth Mary had). The green background connects with the Indian flag meaning growth, faith and fertility. The blue on the Indian flag is the wheel of virtue, which may also represent growth. My connection to Mary is special, as I have her name as my middle name, and Mary and I share the same birthday.
