Student Reflection
My artwork represents ‘The Journey to Bethlehem’ (Luke 2:1–5) and explores the emotions and difficult decisions Mary and Joseph faced along the way. The curved, imperfectly patterned grass symbolises how life is rarely a straight path, just as their journey was filled with uncertainty and challenge. Intricate zentangle patterns throughout the grass and other areas reflect the complexity of life’s choices and my personal connection to this passage.
This scripture reminds me of my own journey through primary school, following in the footsteps of leaders who inspire me. Like Mary and Joseph, I’ve had to navigate challenges and keep problem-solving when the path ahead wasn’t always clear. The gold terrain in my piece symbolises resilience and hope. The road, shaped like a cross, foreshadows Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice; an unknown future that Mary and Joseph walked towards in faith.
Finally, the layered composition adds visual depth, representing the strength of faith that guided Mary and Joseph, and continues to guide me in my own journey. Through this artwork, I reflect on how perseverance, trust, and purpose shape both biblical and personal paths.
