Student Reflection
I chose the scripture ‘The Birth of Jesus’ because it deeply connects to Christian culture and my Hindu culture. In my artwork, I have integrated a combination of both cultures. I expressed my mother tongue, Hindi, by using the words from the Christian scripture which means “Jesus is Born”. I also made a close connection with Mary in the scripture, just like the way my own mother has nurtured and cared for me.
I have used acrylic paint to align the artwork. Through the use of blue tones, historically seen in royalty as a representation of Mary as well as the night sky on the evening of the Lord’s birth.
My background was inspired by an artwork of my teacher, Miss Polsen, and the painting style I used was modelled by her own art and techniques she shared. I have used silver highlights to signify the importance of the wording “Jesus is Born”, as well as the star to link these two key features of my art. While the Nativity is also depicting the shadows of the night sky and reflects the royalty of the significance of our Lord.
