Student Reflection
My artwork is inspired by the scripture passage ‘The Birth of Christ’. I have attempted to show how the night of Jesus’ birth was filled with hard times but also beauty. I decided to put a halo on Mary and baby Jesus to show the presence of The Holy Spirit in them and the connection between mother and child, just like the connection between my mother and myself.
Mary is the focal point of my artwork. I wanted to show that Mary is all things to all people and that we can all see part of us reflected in her, regardless of race or ethnicity.
The media I used was acrylic paint to brightly but softly capture the beauty that happened when the Lord was born. I also used cellophane paper to depict the glass on a stained glass window. At the Year 6 Mass, I was mesmerised by the stained glass windows. I wanted to use this in my artwork to show how present the birth of Christ is in modern day times.
This painting is very special to me because I was able to depict the scripture I love and how I imagine it to be, a warm night with the sound of the sweet cry of Jesus filling the dark night...
