Student Reflection
My artwork features Joseph, Mary and the baby Jesus, along with one of the kings who comes bearing gifts for the Messiah. It depicts the beautiful story of love and The Holy Family, who are framed by the stable’s stone doorway. In the background, the houses of Bethlehem can be seen.
I used a monochromatic colour scheme by drawing with a variety of sketching graphite pencils. I created a feeling of light and shade, depth and perspective by using a blending technique. I paid attention to the detail of the stonework and the central figures, especially the clothing and facial expressions.
The message of my artwork is to inspire others to appreciate the significance of this important event in our Church, the presence of God in our lives and of the love experienced in that special moment in Bethlehem. The celebration of Christmas is an important part of my family’s life.
