Student Reflection
My artwork is inspired by the reading ‘The Annunciation,’ (Luke 1:26-36). The word “renewal” engaged me, because when Mary was called by God she was renewed, being blessed by God.
For my artwork I have chosen to represent Mary’s character through my choice of flowers. Each flower represents why God chose her of all women. The snowdrops symbolise the purity of the virgin. The rose petals symbolise love, which is why I have chosen to surround her with them. The stargazing lily represents nurturing, suggesting how she will nurture Jesus as he is born. The tulips and cockscomb reflect Mary’s love and affection as a Mother, as the blue asters depict why Mary was chosen by God, being a beautiful, faithful maiden. I gave Mary green eyes rather than her normal blue or brown eyes to represent new beginnings. The connection I feel to this artwork is that when I am in trouble, I can get a second chance and I can start over.
For my artwork I used watercolours and a touch of white acrylic paint to show Mary’s soft and gentle nature.
