The flight to Egypt and darkness and light heavily inspired me. On the surface of my artwork, it shows a charcoal painting of King Herod, symbolising his timely death in the story. He is depicted colourless, because he had spread immense fear and pain among his people. There’s one colour on the canvas visible, which is gold. The gold on his crown. It symbolises his greed, wealth and royalty. He had been a cold man, who was hungry for power and control. The crown upon him melts, showing that he is no true king - that title is temporary.
On the second canvas, you will see a precious baby, baby Jesus. He is filled with colour,
representing the happiness, freedom and love he will bring into the world for all to share in the near future. I made a connection to my younger self, when I felt like I didn’t belong. It was dark, lonely and sad. It was so difficult to even talk to anybody, but then these people appeared in my life. These people were my light, opening up a new door of confidence for me, and out of the darkness I came.
