Student Reflection
My artwork is inspired by the reading Luke 2:1-20, also known as ‘the Birth of Jesus’. This reading symbolises hope, attainability and peace.
The words in the reading made me reflect on how Mary was chosen by the Father almighty. Mary was kind and brave when she accepted the call to be the Mother of the Messiah.
I created my artwork using acrylic paint and gold leaf. The gold leaf represented God’s holiness. As the son of God, I wanted him to stand out as the holy one in our Christian belief.
The colour blue was chosen as the background to represent the heavens and the word of God. This shows that Mary has received and accepted the word of God in her heart . The techniques I have used are brush strokes, these show more depth in the hair and nose. I chose this artwork because it reminded me of the connection between me and my mother when I was born and when she looked in my eyes for the first time knowing that I was hers and how she loved me even before she got to know me, just as Mary looked upon Jesus.
