Student Reflection
My artwork is inspired by the scripture, ‘Visit of the Magi,’ (Matthew 2:9-12). This scripture represents Mary holding Jesus calmly with two meanings in her closed eyes. In the sentence “they see Mary with the child,” I chose to draw her holding Jesus as she closes her eyes, too humble to look at the Magi directly. She is also closing her eyes as she feels the pure joy of motherhood.
I connected to this scripture as it reminds me of Mary’s endless love for Jesus as soon as He was born, just like my own mother’s endless love when I was born. Mary trusts Jesus and is ready to support him through anything just like my mother has done for me. My mum is also humble like Mary which makes me see the connection even more.
I used a black and lead pencil along with an eraser for most of the artwork. For the star I added yellow pencil, golden pencil, and a small touch of marker. I chose to use black and white so that the golden star would stand out reminding us that the King is born.
