Our goal is to promote the health and well being of all students and the community by sharing our medical and health knowledge. We strive to ensure that each student can maximize their learning potential through their personal health and well-being.
Does your child need to stay home from school today?
If you answer yes to any of the below questions then the answer is yes. If you are unsure please call the health office to discuss it with the nurse.
Does your child have a fever of 100.1 or higher or had one in the last 24 hours?
Has your child vomited or had diarrhea within the past 24 hours?
Does your child have drainage from an eye or ear? (may indicate infection)
Does you child have a severe frequent cough?
Does your child have a runny nose and congestion that is difficult to manage?
Please follow the 24 hour rule: 24 hours fever free without fever reducing medications and 24 hours without vomiting or diarrhea. If your child is placed on an antibiotic for an infection they should have at least 2 doses before returning to school.
What is happening in the PH health office?
Please remember to keep your child home if they are sick (see above for symptoms to stay home with). Giving them tylenol or motrin and sending them to school exposes other students and staff. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.
Vision and Hearing screenings are almost completed, if you have not heard from the nurse your child was within the recommended ranges.
Head Lice is an ongoing issue in all elementary schools at all times of the year. We do not exclude students for lice as it is not a health hazard. Please remember to check your students head 1-2 a month or when you notice itching of the scalp. We do still ask that you notify the school nurse and follow these guidelines from the CDC. You can also check out this patient information sheet and the AAP website for additional guidance.
Please send in a full change for clothes for ALL students to be kept in their lockers. Spills, playground falls and bathroom accidents happen to all students and the health office does not always have appropriate sizes or articles of clothing.
The Health Information form needs to be filled out for all students. In the event your child may require certain over the counter medication during the school day, we do have standing orders from our school physician for Tylenol, Advil, Tums, Benadryl, triple antibiotic ointment, hydrocortisone cream, and caladryl. You must sign and return the "Health Information" form in order for them to receive any of these medications at school. A link to this form can also be found on Parent Square.
Any student requiring medication (prescription and over the counter) during the school day will need a physician's order. The medication must be brought to the clinic by a responsible adult, children should not transport their own medication (exception for inhalers or epipens with physicians approval to carry on the order). Please see the below guidelines and links for additional information.
To report an absence please log in to School Dismissal Manager (SDM)
Alternatively you can call the front office 508-655-0630.
If you have information or questions about an illness/injury that you would like to share with the nurse please email Nurse Versaw at versawa@doversherborn.org
All students requiring medications during the school day must have a current physician’s order on file in the health office that includes:
Student Name
Medication name, dose and frequency
Reason for medication
For short term medications (i.e. medications given for 10 days or less), a pharmacy labeled container can be used in lieu of a physician’s order.
Allergy Action Plan (updated each school year) required for all epipens.
Asthma Action Plan (updated each school year) required for all inhalers.
School Medication Plan/log required for all other medications.
A new physician’s order is required at the beginning of every school year and is good for 1 school year.
Medications should be dropped off at the health office by a responsible adult, medications should not be sent in students backpacks.
Only a 30 day supply of medication can be accepted in the health office.
All medications, including epipens and inhalers, must be in a pharmacy labeled container/box.
Over the counter medications other than those listed on the emergency health form must have a doctor’s order and be brought to the health office in the original store bought container by an adult.
Students are not allowed to keep or carry medications of any kind on their person or in a backpack, desk, locker, etc. If you wish for your student to self carry an epipen or inhaler please reach out to your school nurse for further discussion. This will be assessed on a case by case basis.
At the end of the year, all medications must be picked up by a parent or responsible adult.
