Welcome to Mrs. Toth’s K–2 ESL classroom! In our English as a Second Language (ESL) program, students build confidence as they develop their English language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Our classroom celebrates multilingual learners and the many languages, cultures, and experiences they bring to school each day. We believe that speaking more than one language is a superpower!

Our ESL Goal

Our goal is to help students grow as confident communicators, readers, writers, and thinkers. Students receive daily ESL instruction that is differentiated based on their language proficiency level and individual learning needs.

Speaking Two Languages IS A Superpower!

In ESL, students may:

Read stories and informational texts
Learn new vocabulary
Practice speaking in complete sentences
Listen and respond to questions
Write words, sentences, and short responses
Use visuals, sentence frames, songs, movement, and partner talk
Build confidence using English in school

Home Language Matters

Families are encouraged to continue speaking, reading, and telling stories in their home language. A strong home language helps children build stronger English skills, too.
