Francisco Parra, a native of Bogota, Colombia, worked as Human Rights Defender in his native country until 1999.
Due to the risks of his job in Colombia, Francisco left his homeland and came to the United States in February 2000 and was granted political asylum by the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service.
From 2000 – 2003, he worked as a volunteer at Wind of the Spirit, an immigrant resource group based in Morristown, NJ. There he learned about the struggles of the immigrant community in the United States. From 2002 – 2003, he served as a member of the Immigrant Rights Committee at American Friends Service Committee in New York City. Through his work with and commitment to this organization, he was appointed as a member of the Board of the Movement for Peace in Colombia, a non-profit organization, also based in New York City.
From 2004 to 2008, Francisco was employed by Saint Clare’s Health System. At Saint Clare’s, he was a member of the President’s Council, who along with a number of colleagues, provided direct input to the President and CEO on issues related to employee satisfaction. From 2007 and 2008, Francisco was also acting as a member of the Board of Directors of the Food Pantry, a nonprofit organization located at Morristown, NJ.
From 2007 to 2024, Francisco was employed by Fairleigh Dickinson University. At FDU, he was a Senior Lecturer in Business and the Assistant Director for the Hispanic Initiative program. From 2013 to 2024, he was dedicated to advised students from the freshmen to the senior level while he was still teaching business courses for the Silberman College of Business and the Becton College or Arts and Science.
Francisco holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a master’s degree in Administrative Sciences and a second master's degree in Student Services Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Francisco holds a Doctor of Education degree from National University.
