Accounting 1

This first level course introduces students to the fundamental principles of accounting, focusing on how businesses track and manage financial information. Students will learn key concepts such as the accounting cycle, recording transactions, preparing financial statements, and understanding basic financial reports. Through practical applications, students will develop essential skills in budgeting, bookkeeping, and financial analysis, providing a strong foundation for future studies in accounting, business, or finance careers.

Personal Finance

This course is designed for students to participate in real-life simulations that prepare them to make wise financial decisions in personal situations. This course helps them realize how their decisions affect their future. Emphasis is placed on establishing long and short-term goals for financial management. Students participate in “hands on” activities, group problem solving, money management, banking services, and personal budget. The second half of this course will focus on student’s exploration of postsecondary and career options, career planning, and career requirements. Students will also work to develop their writing skills suitable for business needs and in developing a résumé. This course fulfills either the state requirements for financial literacy or 21st Century Life and Careers.

Marketing Education

Marketing education introduces students to the processes and functions involved in transferring business products or services to a consumer. Through the study of marketing, students can gain a clear picture of how key business functions, like accounting and finance, are directly related to marketing activities. As a major business function, marketing affects the American economic system as well as the international economy. This class will apply marketing concepts to the sports, entertainment, and hospitality industries. These 5 credits fulfill the 21st Century Life and Careers requirement.
