I earned both a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's of Science in Education from the State University of New York at New Paltz. I began my teaching career in 2010 and have been a dedicated member of the Dover Middle School faculty since 2012.
Over the years, I’ve taught both 7th and 8th-grade science, with a particular focus on 8th-grade physical sciences. I am passionate about inspiring curiosity and fostering a deep understanding of science in my students. I strive to create an engaging, dynamic learning environment that encourages exploration and growth.
Michael Dmytriw
I am a teacher with a background in both middle school science education and elementary school education. I earned a Bachelor's Degree from the University of California at Davis and my Master's of Education from UCLA. I began my teaching career in 2009, and I am excited to be a new member of the DMS staff as of 2025.
In California, I was licensed to teach in bilingual classrooms and taught multiple subjects from Kindergarten through fifth grade. In New Jersey, I have experience teaching science to students in grades 5 through 8. As an educator, my philosophy is to build strong relationships with my students and have them use the power of the scientific method to better understand science and their world at large. My goal is to create a culture in my classroom that encourages personal and academic growth by emphasizing responsibility and exploration.
I live in Allamuchy with my wife, two daughters, and two cats. We love to tell stories, make each other laugh, go on adventures, and cook together.

As an experienced educator with a strong background in science and special education, I am thrilled to join the Dover Middle School community. A proud graduate of Rutgers University, I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Applied Science and a Master's in Special Education.
My teaching journey began in 2019, and over the years, I have had the pleasure of teaching 6th-, 7th-, and 8th-grade science and STEAM classes. In my classroom, my goal is to create a fun, hands-on environment where students can explore their curiosity and develop a genuine love for learning. I strive to create an engaging and dynamic learning environment where students feel encouraged to explore, question, and grow.
Outside of school, I am happily married and have two wonderful children, a 25-year-old son and a 21-year-old daughter. My family and I live in Lake Hopatcong, NJ, and we enjoy spending quality time together and traveling.
Brian Malmgren
Welcome! My name is Brian Malmgren, and I am thrilled to be joining the Dover Middle School team this year. After graduating from The College of New Jersey, I began my service in the U.S. Army at Fort Benning, Georgia. Over the next four and a half years, I held various positions in Georgia, Hawaii, and Delaware. Following my time as a Professor of Military Science with the ROTC program at Delaware State University, I moved to Washington State to begin my teaching career.
While completing my Master’s in Adult and Continuing Education at Rutgers University, I returned to New Jersey, where I taught in Hackettstown before coming to Dover Middle School. Outside of work, I enjoy playing sports, attending live music events, and exploring the area with my two dogs.
Carolyn Mussenden
I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science and Math from William Paterson University and a Master’s Degree in Teaching Secondary Education from New Jersey City University. I am currently back at William Paterson University, where I am pursuing a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. I hope to become a vice principal one day.
I have been a middle school science teacher since 2018. After serving in multiple districts throughout northern New Jersey, I found myself teaching with the Dover Public Schools and have been here since 2023. I have transitioned into my current role at Dover Middle School, where I teach 7th and 8th grade science.
I have been happily married since 2020 and have a daughter. My family and I reside in Andover Township, NJ, where we enjoy spending time together outside, listening to country music, and playing with our four dogs.
