Brenda Ortiz
Dover Middle School has been my professional home since 2001. After earning my Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education and English from Seton Hall University in 2000, I began my career at DMS as a language arts teacher. In 2012, I graduated with a Master of Arts in School Counseling from Centenary University and transitioned from classroom instruction to my current role.
My mission is to cultivate a safe and inclusive environment where all students feel valued, heard, and empowered to reach their full potential. I am committed to ensuring equitable access to resources and opportunities, fostering a strong sense of belonging, and supporting students in their academic, social, and emotional development.
As your child's eighth-grade school counselor, I prioritize open communication and collaboration. Your insights, suggestions, and active participation are vital as we work together to give our students the most fulfilling experience possible.

I am honored to serve as one of the school counselors at Dover Middle School. I am passionate about supporting students in their academic, social, and emotional growth, and I am dedicated to helping them navigate the challenges they may encounter throughout their educational journey.
I hold a Master’s degree in Counseling and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I have experience working with elementary and middle school students. As a bilingual counselor, I am excited to connect with and support our students and families.
I am committed to helping create a safe and supportive environment where every student feels valued and heard. I believe in fostering a positive school culture where students feel confident, capable, and connected. Working in this community is truly a privilege, and I look forward to partnering with families and staff to ensure every student’s success.
Yajaira Vasco
As a therapeutic social worker at DMS since 2023, I have had the opportunity to connect with students and their families to best support student mental health and wellness.
I graduated from the University of California-Santa Barbara in 2005 and Rutgers University's MSW program in 2009. Prior to joining DMS, I held various positions in youth development and mental health.
As a part of the DMS team, I support students on their journey by creating a supportive environment where differences, strengths, and challenges are welcomed and celebrated. I encourage collaborative communication with students, caregivers, and the DMS team in order to achieve the common goal of your student's success. I look forward to supporting your students.
