Financial literacy is the gateway to financial freedom.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: No matter how much money you have, you need the skills to make responsible and meaningful financial decisions. This course will provide an appreciation and respect for money. Many young people lack understanding of the short-term and long-term effects of financial decisions. As these young people grow into adults, they may not have a strong foundation of financial literacy on which to build their financial futures and make wise decisions. This course introduces young people to the importance of money and financial decision making. The topics in this course include 1. Money in our lives, 2. Consumer Skills, 3. Budgeting/Spending plans, 4. Credit, 5. Saving, 6. Investing, 7. Protecting yourself financially, 8. Preparing for success, and 9. Life after high school.
My approach to teaching this course includes simulations, game-based-learning, group and individual activities, in addition to more traditional teaching methods. By learning using various methods for topic delivery, students will learn while remaining engaged, interested and motivated. They apply content knowledge within a simulation or activity while engaged in continuous learning and receiving feedback of their progress.
