HOMEWORK

In accordance with Diocese of Rochester Catholic Schools' homework requirements for third grade students, the following is expected to be completed weekly.

"[W]hen students are provided choice in homework, they feel a greater sense of competence and intrinsic motivation, and they perform better on related tests."

-- Professor Emeritus of Education Dr. Cathy Vatterott

Students in our class are given 19 activity options each week and are required to complete 8 of them to make two "BINGOs." Activities may include writing multi-paragraph responses, drawing maps using cardinal and secondary directions, playing take-home binder math games, and more.

Practicing math facts (2 + 4 or 7 x 3, for example) is crucial to math success! When students can recall math facts efficiently, accurately, and quickly, they free their brains up to focus on other challenges within problems. Additionally, students who have memorized math facts perform better on state testing and experience less frustration in math.

Students should practice math fluency facts nightly for approximately 10 minutes. Flash cards are included in take-home binders, as is a multiplication chart.

Students are required to read for 20 minutes each night. They're encouraged to select books on their own and read for pleasure!

Should a student have outstanding work that cannot be completed in class due to time constraints, it will be sent home for completion.
