The Private IFR is a licence applicable for use, only in Australia, for single pilot operations in aircraft with an MTOW of <5,700KG. With the addition of flight procedure authorisations (FPAs) the licence can enable a PIFR holder to undertake the same range of IFR procedures that are available to a Command Instrument Rating holder. Because the training industry and regulators are set up to train and administer commercial and airline pilots there is a lack of understanding of the options available to those seeking to obtain a Private IFR licence. This site is to provide resources for candidates in training for a PIFR and those operating with a PIFR licence.
