My name is Natalie Gómez and as part of the SFUSD Early College Team I work to support Academy students and the counseling team. While my family is originally from El Salvador, I was born and raised in the Excelsior district of San Francisco and the first in my family to obtain their college degree. I received my undergraduate degree from Santa Clara University and recently obtained my MSW from San Jose State University. I have worked with every grade level at SFUSD school sites for over ten years and am passionate about helping students navigate the educational system, as well as secondary and post secondary opportunities. In my spare time, I love being with my family, cooking, baking, reading and long walks : )

Hello Everyone! I am Jeffrey Freeman (he/him), and I will be one of the school counseling interns here at The Academy for the 2021-2022 school year. I am a 2nd-year graduate student at San Francisco State University pursuing a Master's in School Counseling. Originally born and raised in San Diego, I have lived in San Francisco since 2003 and do not see myself leaving the city anytime soon. Before embarking on this new journey into School Counseling, I come into the field with a background in Early Childhood Special Education. While I enjoyed my years working with very young students, I look forward to working with High School age students to supporting their social/emotional, and academic success. Last year I was an intern at Thomas Edison Charter Academy, where I worked virtually with students grades K – 8th. I am excited to have an in-person learning experience this year, not just for my growth but more importantly for the development of the youth here at The Academy. The past year has been a challenge for all our students. I am very much looking forward to working with the fantastic team here at The Academy to make the transition back to in-person learning and continued education as smooth as possible for all our students.

Hello everyone, my name is Jungmok Yoon (I go by Jung), and I am very excited to be one of the counseling interns here at the Academy SF! I am currently a second-year graduate student at San Francisco State University, working towards a Master’s degree in School Counseling. I was born in South Korea, and my family immigrated to Utah where I did most of my K-12 schooling. I attended UC Berkeley for undergrad, which is how I ended up in the Bay Area. Throughout my undergraduate years, I have worked as a tutor, mentor, and teacher assistant for academic enrichment programs, and most recently as a math elective teacher in Oakland, which is ultimately what got me interested in becoming a school counselor. Last year, I interned at James Denman Middle School working primarily with 6th grade students. I look forward to this academic year working with the students, families, and community of Academy SF!

Hi! My name is Shirley Tsang, and I am one of the counseling interns here at The Academy SF. I am currently a second-year graduate student at San Francisco State University, in the Counseling program for my Master's degree, with a Specialization in School Counseling and Emphases in College and Career Counseling. I also attended SFSU for my Bachelor's degree in Psychology. After I graduated from college, I have worked as an ABA Behavior Therapist conducting sessions with children who have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). I have also been working and volunteering in non-profit organizations in the field of youth development and college and career readiness. I was born and raised in San Francisco so I’ve been around town for a while. I was also the first generation in my family to attend college. My hobbies are singing and playing piano. For self care, I like to practice mindfulness meditation and go on jogs.
