Grace - 3rd Year

I think the thing about sporting beliefs is that they constantly change and develop with your triumphs and your failures. A belief that I like to remind myself of is that ‘you will get out whatever you put into your sport’. And what I mean by this is that whenever you show up and work hard at training or the time you spend by yourself improving all the imperfections and practising until you are proud of yourself, that will all lead you to when it is your turn to win. You can’t worry about other people or what they are doing because at the end of the day all that matters is that you are enjoying what you are doing.

you will get out whatever you put into your sport.

The sports person that I find most inspiring is Usain Bolt. The reason for this is his work ethic. He worked so incredibly hard to be the fastest man in the world and it is that that makes me aspire to be like him. He often talks about how hard he trains and his different mentalities and mindsets and as a young athlete I don't think you could have a better role model.

‘Listen to the work behind the scenes. Competition is the easy part. Behind the scene is where everything is done to that one race that you need to run!’

‘I think a lot of people, they say, “aaah it looks so easy, looks effortless.” but before it gets to that point, it’s hard; it’s hard work. It's a day-in, day-out sacrifice. Just dying this time when you run and just want to stop, you want to give up, you just want to go home.’

I enjoy all my school subjects and I think it is important that you make an effort to enjoy them because it is the only way that you will excel.

I will be competing for Ireland at the end of the year for rowing in the junior women's double.

I have been playing sports my whole life and throughout that time I have had some excellent coaches but in particular I want to thank Seamus and David for seeing my potential and helping to make sure I reach it. I also want to thank my mum and dad, for bringing me to all my competitions and training and always supporting me.

I know I will always be involved in sport one way or another but for my career path I would like to veer into the medical world. Hopefully specialising in neurosurgery.

I really do believe that in order to be successful in anything in life the first step is to show up because you want to be there. As long as you are enjoying doing what you are doing then you will have the motivation to go all the way, and that is always the goal.
