I have been practicing massage for the last 7 years since leaving a 20-year teaching career in 2019. I embarked upon the standard ITEC qualification in Swedish Massage and graduated (mid-Covid!) in 2020. On qualifying, I worked in a spa and explored the general field of bodywork by undertaking a host of post-graduate diploma courses in a range of massage disciplines and spa treatments. I soon focussed on three areas of bodywork that resonated with me most and started working for myself in Glastonbury and the South Somerset area.
In 2021, I graduated in Advanced Clinical Massage Therapy with Jing Advanced Massage Training, Brighton. In 2022, I completed courses in authentic Lomi Lomi Temple Style and Advanced Lomi Lomi with Ricardo Balkhoven, and have regularly attended professional development courses in Lomi since then. In 2024, I added Chavutti Thirumal to my list of specialisms, a treatment I had regularly been receiving over the previous 5 years, training with Candida Valentino. This is quite enough!
More recently I have brought my teaching skills back online and support students of the ITEC course prepare for their exam, including the Anatomy and Physiology component; I help existing therapists deepen their knowledge and practice of massage for chronic pain, and run introductory courses for 'ordinary laypeople' who want to learn a basic massage sequence to share with family and friends. Soon I will be offering certified (and insurable) training courses in massage for those looking to embark on a massage career. I also collaborate with Almeji Retreats, in Andalucia, in the organisation and running of their retreat programme, including offering massage treatments to the retreatants.
