Students often serve in vital capacities within ePortfolio centers and programs, functioning as ambassadors, assistants, and consultants. Operating within a “third space” (Whitchurch, 2015), these students merge their identities as learners and institutional representatives, underscoring the impact they contribute to meaningful adoption of an ePortfolio practice. This panel session showcases the voices of students who excel in these third space roles and how they support, advance, and sustain a campus-wide adoption of ePortfolios. Key questions our panel will address include:
What training do student ePortfolio assistants receive, and how does it prepare them for their roles?
What trends and common concerns do students encounter while assisting peers and the teaching and learning community, broadly defined?
How do ePortfolios add value to the educational experiences of student assistants and their peers?
What are some effective strategies or patterns observed in the creation of impactful ePortfolios?
What challenges exist in student-faculty interactions regarding ePortfolio support, and how can these be mitigated?
In addressing these questions, we will also explore the supervisors’ perspectives on designing and sustaining these positions as well as onboarding and training. By analyzing the distinct nature of these roles in comparison to traditional tutoring positions, we aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of the third space dynamic and identify strategies and opportunities to leverage the potential of engaging students to foster a robust ePortfolio culture.
