Totalitarianism is a political system that prohibits all opposition and exercises an extremely high degree of control and regulation over public and private life.
The below books all are dystopians with an overarching theme of totalitarianism.
George Orwell's 1984 presents omnipresent surveilance, through the memory boxes and, of course, Big Brother. As in many other books of its kind, 1984 presents technology as an aid to control and to enforce power.
In The Hunger Games, The Capitol is the totalitarian goverment and control is being exerted in terms of fear and survival.
The Cirle deals with a world in which a technology company takes over every aspect of our lives and where "secrets are lies and privacy is theft" (which is also an Orwell concept)
In the Giver, there are no feeling of pain and discontent because society has achieved sameness. Moreover, all memories of a world were things were different have been erased.
