Dogs and Cats of Antigua, Inc is a registered non-profit working out of St. John’s, Antigua. We hope to create an Antigua where starving and diseased stray dogs and cats are no longer the norm. We hope to create communities with healthy animals that are loved and wanted and their population growth controlled. An island that is truly a paradise for all Gods’ creatures. A place where we are not embarrassed to be judged on the way we treat the smallest and most vulnerable beings among us. We are doing this one dog and one cat at a time, and for however long it takes.
We offer adoptions in Antigua and Barbuda, and can facilitate overseas adoptions of both puppies and adult dogs in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K.
For animals currently located in Antigua:
To the U.S.: Puppies under 4 months can usually be sent to the States year-round with a travel buddy, which means they fly in-cabin to your final destination. We often have several travel buddies per month and will coordinate with you to get your pup to his/her forever home. Adult dogs or larger pups can be sent to Miami and points north via our quarterly airlifts.
To Canada: Animals can fly in the hold during the North American fall and winter months, generally October through April. They must be accompanied by a travel buddy.
To the U.K. (& Europe): Animals can fly in the hold most months of the year via British Airways. They do not need to be accompanied by a travel buddy, but paperwork and preparation is the most complex for animals entering the U.K. Plan on the process taking 4-6 weeks.
Adopters can apply for a specific animal or fill out an application here to be pre-approved. Generally, the adoption process follows the steps below:
Once you fill out the adoption application, someone from our adoptions team will review and reach out if any information is missing. Please keep in mind that our team is 100% volunteer-run, and we process applications as quickly as we are able to.
We will schedule a call with you to discuss your readiness to make a life-long commitment to a new family member. We also want to understand what you are looking for in a pet, to help us make the best match.
If all goes well with the phone interview, we will contact your 3 references as well as your veterinarian and landlord, if applicable.
When reference, vet, and landlord checks are complete, we will let you know if your application is approved or not. Then, we will coordinate your new family member’s arrival.
Once your adoption contract has been signed and adoption fee has been paid, you can bring your new family member home!
