Čtvrtek 14. 12.

Čtvrtek byl dnem, kdy měla proběhnout naše science show. Lze ho považovat za nejdůležitější den celé mobility, a proto nemohl začít jinak než komplikacemi. V celém Finsku totiž byla vyhlášena stávka hromadné dopravy, což pro nás  osobně znamenalo pouze menší potíže - nemohli jsme do školy dojet autobusem, ale naštěstí nás mohl svézt otec mojí partnerky, takže jsme tento problém snadno vyřešili. Kvůli kolapsu dopravy ale hrozilo, že bude pro tento den zrušena výuka ve školách. To by byl už větší problém, protože by tím pádem naše science show neměla žádné diváky. K tomu ale nakonec nedošlo, takže jsme si se stávkou všichni poradili.

Dopoledne nás čekalo vystoupení pro žáky základní školy. Jednalo se o naši premiéru, která se samozřejmě neobešla bez menších chyb a zaváhání, celkově se ale vydařila. Přes poledne jsme měli volno, které jsme využili na oběd a krátkou procházku po Turku, během které jsme si prošli jejich obchodní dům. Ještě jsme měli čas doladit a vylepšit naši show, pak už ale byl čas na hlavní vystoupení pro studenty prvního ročníku naší partnerské školy. To šlo již znatelně lépe a obešlo se bez větších komplikací. Početnému obecenstvu jsme předvedli všechny pokusy, které jsme měsíce připravovali, a obdrželi jsme za to velký potlesk. Hlavní část programu tím byla za námi.

Odpoledne jsme měli možnost volného programu, rozhodli jsme se ale, že závěrečný den vTurku strávíme společně se členy finského týmu. Po rychlém občerstvení ve finském fastfoodu Hesburger a rychlé otočce doma jsme se všichni sešli u Ilky, jednoho z členů finského týmu. Celý pobyt jsme tak zakončili v přátelské atmosféře všichni společně. Pak už jsem musel jen zabalit všechny svoje věci, protože následující den jsme měli Turku definitivně opustit a vyrazit vlakem do Helsinek.

Thursday

Thursday would be the day we would perform our show in front of the audience, so we I got up earlier to make sure, we make it to the school on time. There we did our last preparations and performed the whole show in front of the audience for the first time. While it went quite smoothly, it was still a little bit rough around the edges, so we would take notes on what to improve for the next performance in front of the whole school later that day. Another round of attending Finnish lessons followed, personally I went to mathematics course, where we learned about vectors. Then we had a lunch at the school canteen and went back to practicing the performance. When we began performing for the second time that day the hall would full of Finnish students, who came to see our experiments. I believe the final performance went very well, despite us having small problems with one of the experiments, which we were able to deal with quite easily. With the show done, marking the end of our work at school, we got back to our host families, to spend the afternoon with them. Personally, I went to visit my host’s family in Salo, town around 50 km away from Turku. There they showed me around the town and in the evening we went to a local restaurant for a dinner together.

Thursday was arguably the most important day of this entire trip, because we were presenting our science show twice. The first was in the morning, and of course we had a lot of complications. The main complication, which mainly affected my colleagues, was a strike across Finland, therefore no trains or buses were running that day, so they were quite in a hurry. This didn’t affect me or Ilkka, because he lives 15 minutes away by foot (we arrived the latest). The first show for the younger and smaller audience went alright, it wasn't perfect and we had a few things we needed to refine, but I think the audience enjoyed it at least a bit. After the show we had a lesson and a break. I spent this break with Ilkka’s friends, for which I am very grateful, as they welcomed me into their friend group very nicely and also spoke a lot in English.

The second show, which had an audience that almost filled the entire hall, went so well, in my opinion, some could call it perfect. It was also way more entertaining, because we made some parts funny. After the show our entire group decided we wanted to spend the last evening together, and so we did at Ilkka's place.

This last day in Turku was pretty enjoyable and a lot happened. On Friday we left for Helsinki.
