LEVERAGING IMMERSIVE TECHNOLOGIES FOR SUSTAINABLE INDUSTRY 5.0
Jan 27th to 29th, 2025
Topic and Focus
As our planet faces unprecedented challenges related to overconsumption and irresponsible use of natural resources, there is a pressing need to explore innovative solutions that align with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This workshop focuses on the transformative potential of immersive technologies in addressing SDG 12, which calls for Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns. Currently, XR technologies have demonstrated their efficacy in advancing various SDGs, such as SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 8 (Decent Work for All). Immersive experiences facilitated by XR have played an important role in enhancing learning, citizen awareness, and driving behavioral change towards sustainable practices across diverse domains, including plastic pollution, building design, sustainable mobility, and water management.
Despite its tremendous potential to directly contribute to SDG 12, XR remains underutilized. This workshop aims to bridge this gap by bringing together a diverse audience, including researchers, developers, technology providers, industry professionals, policymakers, and end-users.
Through dynamic and interactive discussions, participants will explore how AI-based XR technologies can effectively address specific targets within SDG 12, such as the responsible management and use of natural resources and reduce of material footprint (12.2), the reduction of global per capita food waste (12.3), substantial waste generation reduction (12.5), promotion of universal understanding of sustainable lifestyles (12.8), support for developing countries' scientific and technological capacity for sustainable consumption and production (Target 12.9), and the promotion of sustainable tourism (12.A).
By fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange, this workshop aims to unlock the full potential of AI-based XR technologies in ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns.
Participants will engage in conversations to identify actionable strategies, share best practices, and experience demos for a more sustainable future through the effective integration of AI and XR solutions.
