Terms and Conditions
Sharing: Schools are encouraged to share books from their class set collections.
Borrowing: Schools may borrow books from the listed participating schools in their zone.
Arrangements: Borrowing and sharing of books will be coordinated directly between schools beginning with the Story Shelf website database.
Coordination: Pickup and drop-off times must be arranged directly between the borrowing and sharing schools.
Responsibility: The borrowing school is responsible for the transport of books unless otherwise agreed between schools.
Return: All books should be returned in the same condition as they were received.
Good Condition: Only share books that are in good condition (not worn or damaged).
Borrowing Responsibility: The borrowing school is responsible for the books while in their care.
Communication: Notify the sharing school immediately if a book is lost or damaged.
Replacement Timeframe: The borrowing school must replace lost or damaged books upon return of class set.
Typical Borrowing Period:
Half-term (approximately 5 weeks)
Full-term (approximately 10 weeks)
Other periods may be arranged by agreement between the borrowing and sharing schools.
Extensions:
Extensions can be requested if additional time is needed.
Any extension must be mutually agreed upon by both the borrowing and sharing schools.
Care: Books should be treated with care and respect.
Protection: Consider using labels or covers to protect the books.
Return: Books must be returned on time and in the same condition.
Damage: Report any damage or missing pages immediately.
Open Communication: Keep communication clear and open regarding borrowing periods, exchanges, and any issues that arise.
Guidelines: Ensure any specific exchange guidelines are shared between schools.
Story Shelf is a voluntary program.
Responsibility: Participating schools take full responsibility for the care of books they borrow or share.
No Liability: DOBCEL's Story Shelf is not responsible for any issues arising from book exchanges.
Website Database: DOBCEL staff (Belinda Chiswell) will maintain and manage the website database that enables schools to connect and arrange book exchanges.
Exchange Coordination: Schools are fully responsible for coordinating, organising, and ensuring the successful exchange of books, including pickup, drop-off, and the condition of books.
