Lasallians SHiNE!
The Success Habits in a Networked Environment (SHiNE) is a support program for DLSU undergraduate and graduate students. It offers free tutorials and review classes to strengthen the prerequisite and ancillary skills necessary for their academic success. It also provides assistance in improving their study skills.
English Language Tutorial Program
The SHINE English Language (SHINEEL) Tutorial program is offered to undergraduate and graduate students who need help developing or enhancing specific language skills - reading and writing, speech improvement, and oral presentation. The tutorial services are offered by the faculty of the Department of English and Applied Linguistics (DEAL).
The English Language Tutorial for undergraduate students offers a clinic-type approach to reading, writing, and speech improvement sessions. Registration will be open every Thursday through the DLSU Student Affairs site. Registration will be closed on Saturday at12:00 noon.
Guidelines
The SHiNEEL tutorial is open to all Undergraduate and Graduate students who need assistance with the following areas: Reading & Writing, Speech Improvement, and Oral Presentation. This is a free service offered by the University through the Office of Student Affairs.
Students will sign up every Thursday for the tutorial sessions scheduled throughout the following week.
The schedule of tutorial sessions is fixed, and students should sign up for sessions during their free time. They should not sign up for sessions that coincide with their classes.
The SHiNEEL tutorial is a clinic-type tutorial. This means that students should identify in advance the kind of help they need from the SHiNEEL tutors. For example, if they have difficulty with a writing assignment, they should bring their draft output and discuss with the tutor the specific aspects of the task they need help with.
Students will be given a maximum of 30 minutes of tutoring time. During the session, they may be grouped with other students with the same learning needs, as determined by the tutor.
Students may sign up for more than one tutoring session. There is no limit to the number of tutoring sessions they may avail themselves during the entire term.
A maximum of eight (8) students will be accommodated in a one-hour and a half block. Thus, only the first 8 students who sign up for a specific schedule will receive the Zoom link.
Students’ attendance will be monitored by the tutor. If students have three (3) no-shows in a given term, they will not be allowed to sign up for the rest of the term.
